Week 2 Field Trips to Museums
“The magic of a field trip isn’t just the subject. It’s the break in routine and adventure that opens up children’s minds to new things.” Unknown. Found on Field Trip Factory
The second week of the Mooc started on 26th March and we were presented with an interesting issue: Field Trips to Museums.
These are important educational topics in the way we teach and learn in the XXI century.
"Organising field trips to museums or other places can be a highly rewarding experience. Field trips can stimulate the senses, bring curriculum concepts to life, and inspire new questions from students. However, for us teachers, they can also be very stressful experiences. "
More and more we do teach in a different way, we love learning by doing and we take our students to the places where learning can happen in a different way.

2.1 Planning your Museum Visit
Educators need to plan in advance and provide the best learning opportunities for running field trips.
We do need to focus on the activities we want our students to carry out:
- pre-field trip activities
- field trip activities
- post-field trip activities
2.2 During your visit Museum
Planning is important and sometimes you need some help- a Museum guide which can help you move around and choose what collections and focus might be interesting for your lessons.
2.3 After the Museum visit
The follow-up is crucial at the end of the visit as students will create their artefacts and this step will provide opportunities for assessment while the students are working and engaged in the activities.

2.4 Virtual Museum Visits
Thanks to modern technology we can have access to virtual museums. Today we can rely on plenty of resources which are free and can support the learners' activities while learning about new topics in different and many subjects. Learning can happen from anywhere in the world.

Activity: Virtual Museum Visits
My Activity for this week
I like the idea of learning online and as my students are students working and studying in the XXI century they do need to be able to search online and find new paths into learning. Today Virtual worlds and Virtual Museums are a reality in most educational situations. I think that we should all take advantage from what the modern technology can offer us and rely on it.
Virtual Museum can provide us with a lot of visual inputs and thus we are in a position to enhance our students' learning by working with them and also by supporting their personal researches.
We do need to be good at using modern technology but I am sure that our learners will benefit from visiting museums online.
